4th Large Language Model Workshop on November 10, 2025, in Munich – Register Now!

The GeMTeX project team invites you to a workshop on Large Language Models (LLMs), taking place on November 10, 2025, in the Main Lecture Hall of the Klinikum rechts der Isar / Technical University of Munich.

Take this opportunity to engage with experts from clinical practice, research, and industry on the latest developments, potentials, and challenges of AI language models in everyday clinical work – this time with a European perspective on the use of LLMs in clinical practice.

LLMs (Large Language Models) are AI-based language models trained on extensive text datasets, capable of generating human-like text. In healthcare, they offer numerous applications, such as automating routine tasks like writing medical reports or clinical coding.

Program Overview:

  • GeMTeX Update
Speakers: Dr. Frank Meineke (Leipzig University), Christina Lohr (Leipzig University), Justin Hofenbitzer (TUM Klinikum rechts der Isar)

  • AIDAVA (Semantic Annotation & Use of LLMs)
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Markus Kreuzthaler (Medical University of Graz)

  • Medical Text Generation and Information Extraction Using Large Language Models: A Feasibility Study in Ophthalmology
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Danny Kowerko (Chemnitz University of Technology)

  • Clinical & Legal Natural Language Processing
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Florian Matthes (TUM Klinikum rechts der Isar)

  • JUPITER AI Factory
    Speaker: Mathis Bode (Forschungszentrum Jülich)

  • Panel Discussion: Large Language Models in Medicine: From Research to Practice – A European Perspective
Moderator: Prof. Dr. Carsten Eickhoff (University of Tübingen)

Background: Unlocking Clinical Texts for Automated Processing

AI-based language models such as ChatGPT have become part of everyday work across many professions. They also hold great potential for medical research and healthcare. These text processing models, known as Large Language Models (LLMs), are trained through Natural Language Processing (NLP) on vast amounts of text, enabling them to independently generate, summarize, or answer questions about written content.

Within the GeMTeX project of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), researchers are developing methods to prepare clinical texts so they can be automatically read and processed by LLMs using NLP techniques. Ensuring data protection and data security is the top priority. The project aims to create and provide access to the largest corpus of German-language medical texts.
