SMITH at DMEA 2021

The Corona crisis has highlighted yet again the great potential of digital healthcare. Digital technologies, from telemedical applications to cross-practice and cross-clinic networking, are opportunities to provide patients with more comprehensive and effective care even beyond times of crisis. This year, DMEA – Europe’s largest digital healthcare event – is once again gathering all those who want to advance digitalization in healthcare.

The SMITH Consortium of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) pursues the goal of optimally connecting research and care. To this end, heterogeneous data sources from patient care are brought together in an interoperable cross-site structure. Diagnostics and therapy for patients can thus be raised to a new level in the long term.

At DMEA 2021, the SMITH Consortium will present itself among others in the session of the Medical Informatics Initiative, which will take place on 9 June, 2021 from 10:00 – 11:30 am. The session is providing an update on the progress and current results of the MII and is mainly addressing the technical-organizational requirements for the networking of research and healthcare data. SMITH will be contributing with the presentation “The Broad Consent of the Medical Informatics Initiative: Status and Outlook”. It will be held by Dr. Sven Zenker, Medical Director of the Medical-Scientific Technology Development and Coordination Unit of University Hospital Bonn, a SMITH Consortium partner. Other topics of the MII session will include collaborations with national projects and stakeholders such as the Netzwerk Universitätsmedizin (NUM).

In addition, employees and partners of the SMITH Consortium will be represented with diverse contributions in a variety of formats:
