Successful launch of RWTH Aachen University’s part-time master’s program in Medical Data Science (M.Sc.)

With 22 students, the part-time master’s program in Medical Data Science (M.Sc.) under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Rainer Röhrig, Institute Director for Medical Informatics at RWTH Aachen University, was successfully launched at the RWTH International Academy in October. Graduates of this four-semester course acquire important skills and competencies at the interface of IT and medicine. They are thus trained to become experts both in medical data science and in interprofessional communication in health research and care. Part-time study is made possible by the flexible and individual course design within the framework of a blended learning concept. Classical forms of learning are combined here with online offerings.
The study program is based on the learning objectives catalog for biomedical and health informatics subjects designed by the SMITH Consortium of the Medical Informatics Initiative. Medical informatics teaching can thus be designed and mapped in a comparable way.
The next application period for the Medical Data Science (M.Sc.) degree program starts on December 1, 2020. The program is aimed at university graduates in medicine, computer science, natural sciences and life sciences with one year of relevant professional experience.
