New Certificate Course: “Conducting Research with Data from Routine Clinical Care”

MII-Academy participants can now earn continuing medical education credits

Since spring 2024, the online learning platform MII-Academy has been supporting clinical researchers in applying for and analyzing data from routine clinical care for their research projects. There is now an important new feature: The new certificate course “Conducting Research with Data from Routine Clinical Care” allows participants to demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge with a certificate for the first time. Physicians can also receive four continuing medical education (CME) credits from the Saxony State Medical Association. It does not matter which medical association they are a member of.

Knowledge for research with routine data

The MII-Academy teaches clinical researchers how they can use the infrastructures established as part of the German Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) for their own research projects. With around 50 video presentations now available, experts provide insights into five different subject areas. These range from methodological and regulatory foundations for data use, medical terminologies and data quality analyses to specialized data analysis methods and best-practice examples.

The new certificate course within the Academy now gives users the opportunity to test their knowledge in a structured way and receive a certificate confirming successful completion.

Nine videos, three assessments, one certificate

The free and openly accessible certificate course comprises nine selected videos covering different topics from the MII-Academy. To successfully complete the course, participants must watch all nine videos and complete three short assessments, each consisting of 10 questions.

The certificate course covers the following topics:

  • Services provided by Data Integration Centers and the data application process
  • Methodological foundations
  • Regulatory foundations
  • Cross-site data requests
  • Medical terminologies and the MII Core Data Set

A detailed overview of the course content and learning objectives can be found here (in German).

Participants who answer more than 70 percent of the questions correctly in each assessment will receive a certificate of participation as well as the CME credits, provided that they have entered a Uniform Continuing Education Number (EFN).
