Semantic interoperability in the SMITH Consortium with FHIR and SNOMED CT

Redirection to Youtube

Content:

In order to optimally process and use medical data for patient care and clinical research, it is important to establish semantic interoperability. This means describing data with globally unique codes, such as those found in the comprehensive ontology SNOMED CT. But how can such semantic annotations be made? In this article we will show you how this work is done in the data integration centers of the SMITH Consortium based on the HL7 standard FHIR!

SMITH is a research project funded by the Medical Informatics Initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and focuses on the establishment and networking of data integration centers at the participating university medical sites.
